Buster Keaton’s “Sherlock Jr.”
With live music by Hermes Baby (2014)
Silent film (1924, 45 min)
Images have always accompanied Hermes Baby’s live acts. Now the band is using moving images as a starting point: They’ve composed a new film soundtrack for Buster Keaton’s 1924 comedy “Sherlock Jr”. Keaton plays a projectionist and wannabe detective, trying to solve a theft to win over a women’s heart. While doing so, he stumbles into a surreal adventure, full of slapstick and comedy. Baffling stunts and film tricks are used, way before the age of digital special effects. It may all just be dreams and illusions, but our hero gets a bit of help thanks to movie magic.
